Kongero & WÖR
- Lively, refined music from Sweden and Belgium -
Exploring the connections, kinship, and contrasts between the musical traditions and repertoire, the Swedish folk'appella band Kongero & Belgian instrumental band Wör, together, decided to go song hunting in songbooks and collections.
They both love elegant melodies and powerful stories, and share the same goal:
to let the timeless emotions and exquisite melodies speak for themselves, with some help from these accomplished musicians and their dazzling arrangements.
Their collaborative live show & album consists of stories, songs, tunes, themes that appear in Belgian and Swedish traditions, and an original composition written primarily for 'Songbooks.' The effect is lively, sincere, beautiful, and groovy. The arrangements are exquisite, letting every song speak, and every musician's expression shine, allowing all instruments and voices to have their role and place - in building this magical show together.
iThis colaboration was nominated for 'Best Live Band' at the Flemish Folk Awards. In May 2026, they received the prestigious German Critics' Choice Award (Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik) for their album Songbooks - Live.

NL: Twee internationaal tourende bands, WÖR van eigen bodem en KONGERO uit Zweden presenteren hun gloednieuw project “Songbooks”. Onder impuls van Merodefestival en Wesp vzw groeide Songbooks uit tot een stevige internationale samenwerking van WÖR en Kongero.
WÖR is het vijfkoppig instrumentaal ensemble dat na drie albums rond 18e eeuwse instrumentale muziek zin had in nog meer kleur. Die kleur vinden ze in de stemmen van de Zweedse a capella band Kongero, vier zangeressen met een indrukwekkend palmares.
Samen doken ze in oude liedboeken en LP’s, op zoek naar vergeten pareltjes. Zowel in het repertoire, als in de verhalen werden al snel verbanden gevonden tussen hun muzikale tradities.
WÖR en KONGERO willen de tijdloze emotie en spanning van een melodie laten spreken, zonder dat hiervoor tijdgebonden woorden nodig zijn. Teksten werden verkort geschrapt of vertaald, telkens met dezelfde focus: de pure essentie van een verhaal of melodie overhouden.
Ze zijn samen genomineerd als voor de 'Flanders Folk Award 2025' voor 'Beste Live Band-award'. In januari 2026 brengen ze samen een album uit.
Verwacht je aan sfeervolle of energieke arrangementen voor deze unieke band met zang, viool, accordeon, gitaar, doedelzakken en saxofoons.

FR: Deux groupes riches en tournées internationales: WÖR, produit du terroir et KONGERO de Suède présentent leur tout nouveau projet “Songbooks”.
WÖR est un groupe de cinq musiciens qui après avoir consacré 3 albums à la musique instrumentale du 18e siècle cherchait une nouvelle inspiration. Cette inspiration ils l'ont trouvée dans les voix a capella du groupe suédois Kongero. Quatre chanteuses au palmarès impressionnant. WÖR et KONGERO se sont rencontrés régulièrement dans leurs pays respectifs et en-dehors de leurs frontières nationales. Ils devaient bien finir par mettre au point un projet commun.
Ensemble, ils se sont penchés sur des vieux bouquins musicaux et des LP, à la recherche de perles rares. Dans le répertoire ainsi que dans les récits, ils ont très vite trouvé la relation entre leurs traditions musicales.
WÖR et KONGERO veulent exprimer l'émotion intemporelle et la force d'une mélodie, sans pour autant utiliser des mots désuets. Les textes sont raccourcis, supprimés ou reformulés avec un seul but: garder la pure essence d'une histoire ou d'une mélodie.
Ils sont nominés ensemble pour le « Flanders Folk Award 2025 » pour le « Best Live Band Award ». Ils sortiront un album ensemble en janvier 2026.
